SAS commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or Global Goals for Sustainable Development, are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. They involve meeting a broad range of global development targets by 2030. The goals encourage businesses to consider how they can best contribute to overcoming global challenges related to economic, social and environmental sustainability.

The most relevant SDGs for SAS

As a leading airline in terms of reducing our climate impact, promoting resource efficiency and creating an attractive workplace, four of the SDGs are closely aligned to our sustainability agenda:

SDG 5 – Gender equality
Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. SAS contributes toward this goal by encouraging gender equality and diversity through its recruitment policy and annual People Review.

SDG 8 – Decent work and economic growth
Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all SAS provides fair working conditions for all its employees, partners and suppliers.

SDG 9 – Industry, innovation and infrastructure
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. For more than 75 years, SAS has connected Scandinavia to the world, and the world to Scandinavia. Through aviation innovations e.g electric aviation or electric fuel, we are a part of the future of aviation and infrastructure.

SDG 11 – Sustainable cities and communities
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. SAS works continously to reduce the local air pollution as well as improve the waste recycling to reduce the cities' negative environmental impact.

SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production
SAS strongly promotes the more efficient use of resources and the creation of less waste throughout the travel and transport chain.

SDG 13 – Climate action
SAS works to reduce emissions by focusing on procuring more fuel-efficient aircraft, promoting aircraft and network efficiencies, and through the adoption of biofuels.

SDG 16 – Peace, justice and strong institutions
Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. The SAS Diversity Policy promotes equal treatment of all employees and job applicants. Our work with equal opportunities includes promoting diversity and equality in all its forms.
