The overall objective for the SAS sustainability practices is to create long-term value growth for our owners and help SAS reach its targets, while safeguarding the societal, environmental and financial responsibility as well as ensuring continuous ongoing improvement efforts.

 

   

 

SAS Cargo's CO2 footprint

 

 

 

 

SAS Cargo's main source of CO2 emissions are from 


1. Jetfuel we use when transporting freight and mail. 
2. Trucking diesel when transporting freight on road.

25% lower CO2 emissions compared with 2005 (absolute emissions)


2030 goals
Sustainable aviation fuel equivalent to SAS domestic production (on average 18% the last 5 years)
50% noise reduction compared with 2010
100% sustainable materials in the SAS customer offering
100% recycling where possible

2050 goals
Net zero carbon emissions in line with IATAs updated ambition.

Initiatives and activities

 

SAS' sustainability program includes the following emission-related areas, which are all described in more detail below: 

Increase fuel efficiency

  • Collaboration with aircraft and engine manufacturers etc.

Biofuel & Emerging technologies

  • Supporting Electric and hybrid aircraft projects etc.
  • Biofuel; Letter of intent signed with Preem

  • Eco friendly dry clean
  • Aircraft dry wash (97% less water)
  • Aluminum can recycling

SAS Cargo activities

  • Increase Truck fuel efficiency
  • Newer vehicles, Right sizing, Utilization, Ontime performance, Eco-driving, Tire programs etc
  • Lightweight equipment
  • ULD Containers 20% lighter, ULD Support “planks” 80% lighter 
  • JiT performance 
  • At gate in time in order for aircraft not to idle wait, 
 

In agreements with Ground Handling Agents

 

  • Recycling and reusing (where possible) materials
  • Recycle plastic from ULDs and pallets, replace wood support materials, euro-pallet programs, 
  • Energy-saving-programs
  • Replacing old lighting technology with new, Follow up programs for heating 
  • Replace fossil fuel vehicles
