SAS environmental targets are divided into two perspectives, the short-term and long-term. In the short-term perspective SAS shall:
- Be seen as the most environmentally conscious airline in Europe
- Have certified environment management systems in accordance with ISO 14001 for the whole SAS Group
- Have the industry's most efficient fuel-saving program
- Have a long-term improvement plan for ground transport that leads to CO2 reduction
- Be among the first airlines to blend in alternative fuels, once they are approved and commercially available
- Have a long-term plan for its aircraft fleet that leads to a significant CO2 reduction
- Have reached the target for SAS's environment index
In a longer perspective, SAS shall achieve:
- 20% lower emissions by 2020, with traffic growth included
- 50% lower emissions per unit produced by 2020
- Possibility to fly with 0% greenhouse emissions by 2050
